It works by regulating enzymes in fat cells - reducing the rate at which the body deposits fat.
Tests were carried out on 60 volounteers and the results published in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Half of those overweight were given the acid as a dietary supplement while the others, were fed an inactive substance. All were given the option to do light exercise and to moderate their food intake. The scientists concluded that 3.4gms of CLA per day is enough to obtain all the beneficial effets.
