What are Himalayan Crystal Salt lamps?

Crystal salt lamps are made from Himalayan crystal rocks that were formed in the earth. Health Leads Himalayan Salt lamps have been carefully hand crafted giving each of our salt lamps a unique individual look. Inside the salt lamp is a carefully drilled compartment housing a small lamp, when switched on, the light that emits through the various shades of salt creates a romantic, cosy atmosphere and has the benefit of producing negative ions.

What are negative ions?

Put simply, salt is hydroscopic and evaporation of water through salt emits negative ions. However, the small 15-40 watt, bulb produces heat, which evaporates the moisture attracted to the rock. It is during this evaporation process that the electron is ejected from one molecule and attaches itself to another producing a negatively charged ion.

Why are negatively charged ion's good:

The air we breath is filled with electrically charged particles. Whether they are positively or negatively charged, they are called ions and both occur naturally. Unfortunately, the environment and world we live in today has far more positive ions than previously.

Is there anything else should I know?

Salt has hygroscopic properties, which means that it draws water from the surrounding atmosphere. Sometimes, in particularly moist or humid conditions, the lamp surface may be slightly damp to the touch. Lighting it for a few hours dries it very quickly. If crystallisation does occur, just wiping with a damp cloth will remove it. For most situations, this is not a concern. It is recommended that you light your lamp everyday for the best air purifying results
