There have been reports in the press of the beneficial effect this product has on the heart. Approximately 7.5% - 10.2% of the body's total Carnitine content is in the form of ALC.
Also known as Thioctic Acid: This is a surplus compound which could be classified as a B vitamin but for the fact that it can be synthesised within the body. It is a metabolic anti-oxidant that may inhibit damage to mitochondrial DNA.
According to Free Radical Biology and Medicine (USA), 1996, 22/1-2 (359-378), it seems an ideal substance for dealing with free radical processes.
Glutathione is a sulfur-containing, water-soluble, endogenous tripeptide composed of three amino acids and is a powerful endogenous antioxidant combating many of the free-radicals that cause allergies and liver damage. Many chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients have low levels of glutathione as do many alzheimers and parkinsons sufferers.

L-Arginine is a glucogenic amino acid. It is often supplemented for good circulation and cardiovascular health.
Peer Reviewed Professional Journals: Ceremuzynski, L., et al. Effect of supplemental oral L-arginine on exercise capacity in patients with stable angina pectoris. Am J Cardiol. 80:331-333, 1997.
This double-blind study involved 22 people with stable angina. Each subject underwent an exercise stress test up to the point where changes on ECG indicated heart muscle strain. For three days, half the group received placebo while the other half received 2,000mg of arginine per day. The exercise stress test was then repeated. Patients in the placebo group experienced an increase in exercise time of approximately one minute. The patients receiving arginine increased the time that they could exercise without experiencing heart muscle strain by almost three minutes and ECG abnormalities were less in the arginine group compared to the placebo group.

L-Cysteine is a glucogenic, sulforous amino acid that is synthesized in the liver. It possesses anti-oxidant properties and may improve the defence response of the immune system. People with depressed immune function usually exhibit significantly depressed cysteine levels. Cysteine minimizes the toxic side-effects of chemotherapy. Discuss with medical practitioner if undergoing cancer treatment.
L-Lysine is an essential, basic amino acid. It may help to prevent the cross-linking of the bodys endogenous proteins (glycosylation) - this is one of the underlying manifestations of the aging process. Anemia may occur as a result of Lysine deficiency. Lysine (5,000mg per day) may help to reduce the symptoms of angina. Hair loss may occur as a result of Lysine deficency, may accelerate the healing of the lesions associated with Herpes simplex viruses.

L-Ornithine is a urea cycle amino acid. It can stimulate the immune system, enhance the regeneration of the liver and accelerate the healing of wounds.

Keats Publishing, New Canaan, Connecticut, USA. 1997:230. Ornithine increases polyamines levels and low polyamines are a possible biomarker for Alzheimers disease. By increasing polyamines (which are known to facilitate the repair of damaged axons), ornithine may be beneficial for Alzherimers disease patients.
