Essiac Origins
The original formula is thought to come from the native Canadian Ojibway Indians.
The four main herbs that make up Essiac are Burdock Root 84g, Slippery Elm 16g, Sheep Sorrel 64g and Rhubarb Root 4g.
The name Essiac comes from Rene Caisse (Essiac backwords) who discovered this natural herbal formula.
Instructions for the preparation of Essiac Herbs
Boil 4 pints(568ml) of filtered water in a pan of earthenware or heatproof glass.
Mix together the two bags of herbs that you have received. We pack the powders (Slippery Elm and Rhubarb Root) separately to ensure that your herbs, when mixed, are in the exact proportions for the formula.
Stir in 2oz(Approx 57g) of the ESSIAC formula with a wooden utensil and cover.
Boil fast for ten minutes.
Remove from heat and stir, scraping herbs from side of pan back in to the liquid.
Cover and let stand for 6 hours.
Stir well, replace lid, and leave for a minimum of 6 hours.
Stir, cover, and bring to the boil. Remove from heat and stand for 5 minutes before straining.
Funnel liquid into brown sterile glass bottles with screw tops and seal immediately. Once cool keep refrigerated.
