E3Live is a convenient wild wholefood - which grows without pesticides or artificial fertilizers. Many believe wholefood vitamins, minerals and other nutrients are better absorbed and utilized by the body, even when they are present in food-source quantities. As promoted by Gillian McKeith on her UK television series Blue green alga contains the highest beta-carotene content per gram of any food.
Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says on page 66:
The active ingredients that make cascara such an effective laxative are two types of a substance called anthraquinone. The first type, free anthraquinone, causes an increased peristalsis, or movement, in the large intestine. The other type, sugar derivative, is absorbed in the digestive tract and circulated through the bloodstream. These sugar derivatives eventually reach a nerve center in the large intestine and trigger a laxative effect.
Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says on pages 75 and 76:
Herbalists for many years have used cayenne with regard to a variety of symptoms - from gas and diarrhea to asthma and toothaches.
The active ingredient in cayenne pepper is a substance called capsaicin, which, when taken internally or applied externally, acts as a powerful stimulant.
Odly enough, this fiery substance has been valued by herbalists throughout the ages for its soothing and resotrative effects on the digestive system. Folk medicine recommends it highly, as Maude Grieve, author of A modern Herbal, put it: for purging the system of bad humors.
Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says on page 90: Herbalists recommend cinnamon as an astringent, stimulant, and carminative to aid digestion and relieve vomiting. Recent studies by Japanese researchers show that cinnamon contains a substance that kills fungi, bacteria, and other microorganisms, including clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism, and staphylococcus aureus. It also devastates Aspergillus parasiticus and A. flavus, fungi that produce aflatoxin. The findings suggest all sorts of possible medicinal uses for cinnamon.

The American Indians are credited with discovering which part of the plant yielded its medicinal properties: the roots. They contain a substance called caffeic acid glycoside, which reacts with other substances in the bodys cells and facilitates the wound healing process. In folk medicine, this unidentified substance was used as a blood purifier to cure a wide variety of ailments: rheumatism, streptococcus infections, bee stings, poisonous snakebites, dyspepsia, syphilis, gangerene, eczema, hemorrhoids, and a host of pains and wounds.
Many American herbalists still regard echinacea as one of the very best blood purifiers, as well as an effective antibiotic. According to naturopathic doctor Michael Tierra, echinacea neutralizes acid conditions in the blood charectaristic of lymphatic stagnation. Dr. Paul Lee, founder of the platonic Academy of Herbal Studies, describes echinacea as "our leading herb on the list of immuno-stimulants."

Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia says on page 191: Here and there around the world, the plant is recommended as an expectorant, laxative, febrifuge, and stomachaic. The herb is employed as a folk cure for diabetes, anemia, and rickets.
Reserch suggests that at least some of these old-time remedies have merit. The seeds contain up to 30 percent mucilage, which does indeed make them a good poultice.

Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says on page 494: Uva-ursi's leaves and berries contain tannic and other acids and the glycoside arbutin, all of which give the herb its astringent and antiseptic properties. The plant's traditional uses make sense in light of its chemical makeup. The Chinese, Europeans, and American natives all considered it a kidney herb. They prescribed leaves and fresh berries for treating kidney stones, bladder infections, incontinence, and similar ailments.
Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs says on page 510: For centuries wormwood has been used as a worming medicine for men and animals.
It was also used as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative, sedative, stomachic, tonic, and stimulant. It has been given to those suffering from poor circulation, rheumatism, fever, colds and jaundice.
The active principle of wormwood is thujone, which in large amounts is a convulsant poison and narcotic.
Pharmacognosist Varro Tyler, Ph.D. does not endorse the use of wormwood, and most herbalists stress that caution is necessary in its use.
