At last! A natural form of Folate (Vitamin B9) from Health Leads!
Folate is found in a wide variety of foods, notably dark green leafy vegetables, wheatgerm, brewers yeast and beef liver. It is frequently recommended to pregnant women.
It is necessary for the production of new DNA, and new DNA is needed for all new cells.
Folate is a water-soluble B vitamin. The total body content of folate is estimated to be 10 to 30 mg; about half of this amount is stored in the liver and the remainder in blood and body tissues. The recommended daily allowance for folate is 400mcg for adults and 600mcg for pregnant women.
Folate may also be recommended for other groups affected by anemia, dementia, depression, cardiovascular conditions and alcohol dependence.
A lack of dietary folates can lead to folate deficiency. This deficiency can result in many health problems. Common symptoms of folate deficiency include diarrhoea, macrocytic anaemia with weakness or shortness of breath, nerve damage with weakness and limb numbness (peripheral neuropathy), pregnancy complications, mental confusion, forgetfulness or other cognitive deficits, mental depression, sore or swollen tongue, peptic or mouth ulcers, headaches, heart palpitations, irritability, and behavioural disorders. Low levels of folate can also lead to homocysteine accumulation.
What is the difference between folate and folic acid?
Folate is often used as a generic term for Vitamin B9. However, there is a clear distinction between folate and folic acid. Folate occurs naturally in food, whereas folic acid is a synthetic form of this vitamin.
Folic acid is synthetically produced, and used in fortified foods and supplements on the theory that it is converted into folate. However, folic acid is a synthetic oxidized form, not significantly found in fresh natural foods. To be used it must be converted to tetrahydrofolate (tetrahydrofolic acid) by dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR). Increasing evidence suggests that this process may be slow in humans. Humans cannot synthesize folates, therefore, it has to be supplied through the diet to meet their daily requirements.
Our folate is also known as L-methylfolate or 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF), which is considered a healthier alternative to folic acid. Studies have shown that
5-MTHF is equal to or even better than folic acid.

We want the best for you, so we avoid harmful additives in our supplements. Many other manufacturers add magnesium stearate in order to make their machines run faster and save them money. However, we believe this can inhibit the absorption of the nutrients. Where a carrier or filler is needed, we will only use the natural and healthy organic rice flour.
