What is Serrapeptase?
The enzyme serrapeptase (serratiopeptidase) was originally found in microbes inhabiting the intestine of the silk worm and is used to make a hole in the cocoon so that the moth may emerge. It is now commercially made in laboratories by the process of fermentation.
Across Asia and Europe, especially Germany and Austria serrapeptase has been used for over 30 years and for good reasons. Serrapeptase is a viable alternative to many anti-inflammatories.

Studies indicate that Serrapeptase helps to dissolve atherogenic plaque. It also facilitates the breakdown of fibrin, scar tissue and cysts. Serrapeptase digests only non-living tissue - blood clots, cysts, arterial plaques and inflammation.
Should serrapeptase have enteric coating?
This is a cause of much debate as many companies say that without enteric coating the serrapeptase will be destroyed in the stomach hydrochloric acid before it can reach the small intestine.
Do we use enteric coating?
We do not because they contain phthalates (pronounced Th-ah-lates). The European Directive prohibits the use of phthalates in childrens toys. Phthalates are primarily used in plastics and now phthalates are being phased out in many countries due to the toxic and harmful effects and should not be consumed.
Without enteric coating will it reach the small intestine?
The original research that was produced back in the 1950s was based on animal enzymes, but with the new process the enzymes are resistant to stomach acid.
