What is Klamath Blue Green Algae?

Klamath Blue green algae is – we believe - far superior to spray dried or freeze dried algae and this is evident to the naked eye by the glistening tiny crystals seen in it. Hydro-Dri is the term used for the drying of our blue green algae and it keeps the integrity of the enzymes and properties. It is a far gentler method than other drying methods and safeguards the potency.

We stock the certified organic Blue Green Algae from the Upper Klamath Lake in Southern Oregon, USA.
Upper Klamath Lake - located 4,100 feet above sea level, surrounded by the Cascade Mountains. Much of the water that empties into Upper Klamath Lake comes from 6,176 foot high, and 1936 foot deep Crater Lake, a pristine self-contained lake formed during a volcanic eruption. This lake is fed by abundant snow fall, which flows down to Klamath Lake.

The Klamath Blue Green Algae is a wild, fresh water algae that grows in the Upper Klamath Lake in abundance. This algae, unlike cultivated algae, is a naturally occurring perennial.

The precipitation that falls on Southern Oregon’s Cascade Mountains washes mineral-rich volcanic soil into this alkaline lake annually. The combination of mineral-rich water, clean air, and high intensity sunlight make the unique ecosystem of Upper Klamath Lake the most perfect growth medium.
Wild and organic, our high quality algae is gently harvested during June through to November from the surface water, carefully filtered and contained in rapidly cooled water tanks, which helps preserve natural bio-active compounds.

Then one of the best drying methods available is used. ‘Hydro-Dri’. Special computer-controlled dryers use heat transfer technology exposing the algae to heat for only a brief moment, delivering a dried product as close to its natural state as possible.

What does Klamath Blue Green Algae do?

For thousands of years algae has been eaten as a nutritious food. It is packed full of easily digestible protein, 55-70% compared to beef, chicken and fish, which contain only 25%. It is composed of all eight essential amino acids and semi essential amino acids. Most significantly, the amino acid profile is very similar to the requirements needed by the human body. It is a great source of chlorophyll. It contains minerals, trace minerals, fatty acids, nucleic acids, vitamins, enzymes, peptides, lipids and carbohydrates.
Over the past few years there has been a huge rise in popularity of Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae (AFA) Blue Green Algae and it has been called the green food supplement of choice by a number of top Hollywood celebrities.

Health Leads Quality and Purity Promise

We want you to benefit from the best possible food supplements. Therefore, we strenuously avoid the addition of harmful bulking agents, fillers and flow enhancers, such as magnesium stearate. Other additives such as stabilizers and preservatives extend shelf life but additives will often impact on the effectiveness of the product. At times a carrier is needed to help certain powder ingredients flow through our machines and in these cases we use rice flour — natural and healthy. Therefore, you know as a consumer that when you buy from Health Leads, what you see on the label is what you get.
